Breast ultrasound is a way to view breast tissue using sound waves. Your doctor may request a breast ultrasound along with your diagnostic mammogram if there is, for instance, a new lump or suspicious area discovered on your clinical exam.
A breast ultrasound may be helpful in further characterizing tissue in an area of suspicion identified by digital mammography.
Depending on each individual’s history and situation, a decision will be made as to whether breast ultrasound should be used to aid in diagnosis.
